Well, since you asked... My first album (LP, 33 1/3 RPM I think) was the soundtrack to "Born Free", the movie about Elsa the lion. I begged and begged, finally my mother got it for me. She wouldn't let me touch the stereo (big piece of furniture), so when I wanted to listen to it, I had to ask her to put it on the turntable for me. If it redeems me at all, one of the first LPs I bought with my own money was a rather obscure (I think) two LP album set of John Lee Hooker performing with Canned Heat.

Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go buy a walker so I can put some hot pink tennis balls on the legs. :-)

The first vinyl album I ever bought was Electric Light Orchestra's Out Of The Blue...
Quickly followed by:
2) Queen's News Of The World
3) Rolling Stones' Some Girls
4) Rod Stewart's Blonds Have More Fun
5) Charlie Daniels Band's Million Mile Reflections
6) The Knack's Get The Knack
7) Blondie's Parallel Lines
8) The Cars' The Cars
9) The Cars' Candy-O
10) Cheap Trick's Live At Budokan
and so on..
I have them all numbered in the order I bought them. I bought ELO's Out Of The Blue when I was 13 in 1978! The last vinyl album(s) I bought was 1991. They were Guns N Roses' Use Your Illusions 1 & 2 on 4 vinyl records. ;P

Vinyl...

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan (1963)

I think wore out just the songs "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" & "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" more then the entire album as a whole...

Can't forget about "Blowin' In The Wind" though...a classic that has been covered as many times as The Beatles "Yesterday"...

Simply a great album!!
Owned it on LP, cassette, 1987 Cd, and now the newly remastered Cd...It just sounds good...A truly recommended classic!!!!!!!

I think, although this goes back deep into my childhood where my memory is incredibly foggy, it would probably be the Monkees record that had Last Train to Clarksville, Pleasant Valley Sunday, Saturday's Child and what have you on it. Although it could have been a McCartney record or maybe Into the Gap by the Thompson Twins.

First CD was the Real Thing by Faith No More and I can't recall what tape it would have been.

***************
Ooh, someone mentioned him and I think I remember correctly. My first tape was PROBABLY Dream Into Action by Howard Jones.

I think the very first one I got my grubby little hands on was the first one that I actually bought for myself. I picked up two cassettes with my allowance money back in the 3rd grade:

Night Ranger - Midnight Madness
Duran Duran - Seven and the Ragged Tiger

Oops. How could I forget this...
My parents bought me an 8-track of Kiss - Rock and Roll Over when I was like 5. It's still my favorite album of all time.

NP: "Shine On" - Badlands

Definitely either an LP or a 45! My kids called them "big CDs." Don't remember who. Might have been the Beatles!

I had a 45 called "Strawberry Letter" that smelled like strawberry. Song wasn't very good but it smelled great.

I also had 8 track tapes!
