Okay I just answered a question about why don't Americans like to touch. It sparked something that happened last month to me. Okay my aunt came to visit & I had not seen her in over 5yrs, so I was so happy because she was one of my favorite aunts. So kept hugging her & when I put my arm around her shoulder when she was talking to my mom, she turned & was like "I know your horny but please", I was like WTF & I said it. She said" Why r u hugging on me" I said "b/c I have not seen you in 5yrs & I missed you". My mom agreed w/ her, I mean I have a bf why would she think that b/c I hugged her that means I'm horny, is that a generational thing? Is that how baby boomers communicate they are in the mood to hug ppl? I just thought that was. . . .wierd, do you?

I would say whatever the nationality the the"i know your horny but". response is very strange! im pretty sure my family members (even the foreign ones) the last thing on their minds if i was (God forbid) hugging them would be "ah he must be horny", why do you think she came up with THAT response? i would also think it would not be the response of the majority of Americans

That response from her was kinda disturbing for real. Like , if you don't want to be hugged, cool, but to make a comment about being horny, weird coming from and aunt. I know some people don't like to touch, but i find a lot that do. I mean, most women I know, i hug when i see them, especially family and close friends and most of guys i know that i haven't seen in a while hug me too, so i don't know but the response, i agree, was weird.

Different Americans will react differently, depending on where they grew up, where they live, who they hang out with, their family upbringing and ethnic and cultural backgrounds and finally if they are male or female, and yes, their generation and how they had been brought up.
New Yorker's in general, from NY, NY will react one way, while New Yorkers from Buffalo NY, will react completely different.
People from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, will react completely different to those who come from Buck County Pennsylvania. I've seen men (and definitely not gay) hugging each other when seeing each other after a break in time, in one place, and in others standing several feet from each other in the same circumstances.
If you are referring to 'Americans' the question of nationality of course does not come into it, unless you are talking about those who have not been born there, or those who have immigrated to the US and have not yet taken the 'test', although in my experience I've noticed that more immigrants seem to be more 'American' in their attitudes and beliefs than most Americans.
Try going to the UK, to one of the small villages, and you find the same thing. One village will welcome you with open arms, and be very touchy feely, and the next one will accuse you of hitting on them.
Many places in the UK, if you hug your children in public, you can get accused of being a child molester... Saw it happen to one of my neighbors. I had just come over from South Dakota, where they had been having a poster campaign suggesting that if you didn't hug your child every day, you were abusing your child. Go figure?
My wife, from the Caribbean, is all huggy with her sisters, brothers and extended family (except for those who married in). Her daughters, hardly touch each other or anyone else.
So you can't really judge how someone will react.

No, that's not everyone's family.. Mine isn't like that.
But Americans do not like to be touched by people they don't know.
