With regard to guilds or groups that one would want to join in order to advance through the game...How does one go about finding said guild, and how does one know the maturity level of the other players?

I'm really not interested in tying myself to a 12-year old whose goal is to cheat their way through the game...How can I avoid the jerks and ensure that I'm connected with good players?

In terms of World of Warcraft (the MMO that I play), you do not need to join a guild. They can be helpful, but they're not required (unless you plan on doing some hardcore raiding, and according to your other post, you are not). People will typically advertise the need for other group members for smaller quests or dungeons through one of the chat channels. You can't guarantee that the players will be mature, but I think you'll find that most of the time, you're not going to get stuck with people like that. RP servers (role playing) tend to have more mature gamers on it because they act in character at all times and enjoy it.

If you want to join a guild that is geared toward adult gamers (18+), I am aware of Titans of Glory (Alliance) and Titans of Gore (Horde) that have made names for themselves on various servers - and in other MMOs, if I remember correctly. (ToG, the initials, also stands for The Older Gamers, I believe.) They're mature individuals, age 18+, who can't devote their lives to a video game and play only as they are able.

The more mature gamers are the ones who make it to level 70 rather than just give up when they don't get their way. If you know people who play in real life, you can join their guild on their server. You'll start seeing which guilds are larger and more helpful when you play, but the larger they are, the more likely they are geared for raiding and have an application process and require their members to attend certain raids and events.

Just group up with people and if they're irrational, express your displeasure and leave the group if necessary. You can typically find out info about the various guilds on the official website's message boards.

Happy gaming!

The best way to find a good guild is to play the game and group. When you enjoy a group, ask about the guild, the age group, and if it is a raiding or casual guild.

Make use of the /friends ability and store your favorite people that you have grouped. If you see a repeat of a guild among that group, let them know you are interested in joining their guild.

Also, when out of game, do a Google search on the guild. See if they have a web page. Read the forums and see if these are the type of people you would enjoy playing online.

It is pretty self evident when you are playing with immature kids after a short while. My guild master is in his 30's and most of our members are adults. He grouped with me once when I was playing with a couple of 14 year olds and within minutes he whispered me if they other two were kids. You can just tell from what they say to how they act. Also, kids think this time is for them to talk rudely and make sick jokes or sexual talk, keep track of who talks like that and what guild they are in. I have also found that playing early morning is a great time to find mature adults playing. Kids stay up to late playing then have school in the morning, that is a great time to find mature guilds that are on. But trust me, I joined many of guilds until i found the one I am in now, and you can tell after a short while.

Well, from my experience if you display a skill owrthy of recognition in front of other players, you are bound to get into a guild. Also several guilds just allow anyone to enter because they need members.

In regards to the age, I think it would be safe to lie about your age in order to get people to tell you theirs. 19 is the perfect age. It might be immoral but it works

In most MMOs you do not even need to join a guild at all and sometimes joining can be a headache. they send you on frivelous jobs that annoy the stuffing out of you

by way of fact it bans your account, not your IP handle or something. with the help of banning your account, you may play in case you decide on, yet you basically could desire to start from the very initiating.
