AAA batteries are smaller, because my mother-in-law doesn't need a big artifictial "man" to get her motors running. However, when she does bring AA batteries home, she can be heard breaking the silence of night with screams well into the morning.

you have to rememder that batteries were assigned a letter to indicate size. The A cell was smaller than the B cell, the B cell smaller than the C cell........ To indicate smaller than the A cell they had to make the AA cell, and smaller still, the AAA cell. Then they lost track and the N Cell is smaller that the AA or the AAA.
