Why not one long month with 365 days?

The first 12 month calendar was the Roman calendar, although it originally consisted of only 10 months. This calendar was short by 61 days so around 713 BC, Numa Pompilius added two months to the end of the calendar. You may never have guessed that those two extra months were January and February. This calendar was still off from the Gregorian calendar that we use today, for one the months only had 29 days in them. After Numa Pompilius changed the calendar there were 355 days in a year, still 10 days off but much better than 61 days off.

In order to keep the seasons from shifting dramatically and confusing the animals there were occasionally leap years, just like ours (sort of). Instead of adding one day in February, an entire month as added. This leap month was known as Mercedonius. For some strange reason during a leap year February (known then as Februarius) was shortened to 23 or 24 days, the leap month began at the end of Februarius.

The history of the calendar is a bit complex, and often nonsensical, but I guess we’re prepared for that since our own calendar is a bit odd as well with things like leap years and day light savings time, especially daylight savings time, do we even need that?

It was natural to count the year with smaller unit called day and it was about 365 days. Now there is one more cosmic body called Moon . People found that it gets to original position in 29 days . This period was named Month after the planet Moon .

the solar system involves the earth, moon and the sun, besides the other planets. The moon rotates around the earth 12 times, and that's the time it takes for the earth and the moon to rotate around the sun. I guess if the moon only went around the moon one time, then it would be one long month.

Humanity requires "COMPARTMENTALIZATION" because it helps them to think more easily,,,,and 365 days are just TOO large to be thought of as a real "compartment" except as in the context of one year.
