Someone came to my door last night and said that he used to live here 2 yrs ago and that he had purchased something off of ebay and had forgotten to change his address to his new address. He said he is having a large pkg. delivered to my home on thursday and asked if I would hold it for him and contact him when it arrives.. this seems a bit fishy. Any suggestions?

yeah. I knew people that have done this before. It's a load of crap. They use stolen credit cards to order stuff to "drop houses". It won't be drugs or weapons. It's usually just big ticket items bought illegally. Even if you open it, you won't know if it's stolen or not. Remember, 2 years is a long time to not change an address on Ebay. You'd have to change your credit card details in that amount of time.
Tell the company (UPS or whatever) to take it back to the warehouse, call the guy, and tell him it's at the warehouse. They'll make him give an ID and stuff. That way, if it's legit, they can still get their package.

Sounds very fishy.

Your first instinct is usually correct.

Call the authorities and ask them what is the best solution to this problem.

I hope you get some good advice. If they just make a joke of it then call this guy and tell him you will be unable to accept this package on his behalf because you are going out of the country in a couple days on some unforeseen business.

That should solve the problem forever! Or, accept it and tell him that you are uncomfortable about accepting packages for him and would not do so in the future you would just leave it at the road.

I'd listen to Danny also

Yeah it does, but it also sounds like it could possibly just be that he forgot to change his address. I honestly don't know what I would do in this situation! Maybe open it when it comes, and if there is anything in it thats bad, call the cops! Tell him that you didn't trust it and had to make sure it was ok to bring into your house. He shouldn't have a problem with that if there is nothing illegal in it!

PROBLEM IS HE KNOWS WHERE YOU LIVE - don't play a hero - this could be legit or something really bad

By all means : DO NOT SIGN FOR IT. Do not accept delivery of it. Tell carrier to hold it for pick-up by addressee. Or leave a huge note stating so. Leave home for the day or stay out of sight, don't go to the door.

If they leave it outside call the carrier to have it picked up since it does not belong to you. If they do not do pick-ups ask if you can return for pick-up by rightful owner.

Sounds like you have his phone number -- call and tell him where it is ready for pickup since you unfortunately were not home to have it delivered. Or if you can't get rid of the box leave it outside and call the creep that your neighbor told you its outside so the creep should come pick it up.

Be careful!Too many crazies out there!!! You have to act like you are not trying to do anything on purpose to the guy in case he is doing illegal things.

People (for example the wife of a famous laywer in CA) have been killed in a situation like this.

He's scamming off of a fake/stolen credit card or stolen bank information. He's getting it delivered to your house so that he can't be traced. Don't let him deliver anything to your house. Its stolen property that he is getting delivered there and you don't want the cops knocking on your door accusing you of theft when the real thief is long gone.

He lived there 2 years ago?! Ask a neighbor to c if he's legit. Leave it outside when it arrives, and tell him to make sure that he changes the address... b/c if it happens again, u will b forced to decline the shipment.

If he did live there before, maybe he's telling the truth. If something is already on the way there, he will obviously want to pick it up. I'd just hold it for him and have it on the porch for him to pick up at some designated time. Don't let him in your home or anything. I doubt it's drugs or weapons...don't bother the police about it!

don't do it. If you sign for it you will be held legally liable for it, if the sender wants the package back. just tell the delivery guy that it's not yours and let Ebay will figure out who it belongs.
you can tell the guy that you were not home

are you missing a credit card?
i would put a guess on someone getting your credit card number and this is all one giant scam to ship it to you and get it. don't do it! let someone know, like a relative or a neighbor, that this is going on. and lock your freaking doors!

I think you might be over-reacting a little...
Just hold it I guess... You could always open the package and
then enclose it back XD But I seriously suggest you not to do that...
