THAT is why I am single. The last b/f I had his mother was awful and hated me. At the end of the relationship he would go alone to see her because all she would do was pick at me.

Neither. In-laws are what came with the marriage, you are not obligated. What makes you the most comfortable is where you need to be. Sending your spouse alone defies why you got married (i.e. you have a problem with them which will set off re-precautions on your part). Been there and it was not pretty to say the least. Make the most of what you have with each other at the present time. Play the game down the road as to who "you" will visit each holiday (as there are many and you can not please them all at once) and the ends will justify the means. Every once and awhile you need to have sometime for yourself and your spouse. Family is great (both sides) but they can grate your nerves. The intention here is to stay sane as the holidays are very hectic.

Seriously Lady M ..... would you invite me to your family gathering??????? .... I rest my case. I have a standing order of protection placed on me by her family which prohibits me from coming with in 300 ft of the family get together ( the limit before was 20 ft so I got a bullhorn, a card table and a plastic chair and sat in the front yard & told jokes..... well Uncle Ernie had to be taken to the ER for irregular heart rhythms) The family makes sure I have some food Fed-Exed to me .....well <> at least I don't have to fight over the remote.

We rent a nice house somewhere in another state. Then we bring them with us for a family vacation. Lots of laughs and love.

They're both dead, so I don't really have that option... but I'd love to spend another holiday with them.
