Why do Americans believe in UFOs??

The same reason that people around the world believe in UFO's -- because several million people a year see them, and even some governments (Chile for example) openly accept their existence.

As for specifically American (United States) UFO sightings, Jimmy Carter openly discusses the UFO that he and his wife saw many years ago. Congressman Dennis Kucinich has seen a UFO and will discuss it, and so will Governor Fife Symington now that he is no longer in office.

I'm afraid that this is far from any rich local traditions therefore. While it is true that poor and powerless people see UFOs -- here and in every other country in the world; so do rich and powerful people.

Perhaps its time to get off your xenophobic hatred or distaste for America and Americans and actually examine the evidence.

It's not just Americans that believe in UFOs. Many other countries have had reports come in about UFO sightings. Mexico, Canada, England, Germany, Spain, just to name a few.

Also the belief in UFOs is not a modern concept. There are many classic paintings and ancient stone carvings that depict what can only be described as UFOs.
Next time check your facts before you go bashing a country's intelligence for something that is a world wide phenomena.

For your intelligence sir, I am american, but that does not make me a true believer in UFO"s, by the way which only means an unidentified flying object, that could be anything that does not have an immediate identity to the eye. Now if your wondering about whether or not we believe in a higher intellgence in the universe, then that I belive in. Now, based purely on your question, I can tell you didn't think it through one bit, and I bet its because you have a low IQ. Lets face it, Americans rule the world. Yes we Americans have quite High IQs. We as humans would be very foolish to believe that in the mass endlessness of space that we were the only intelligent life forms.

People all over the world believe because they have seen them. Military people, astronauts, politicians & the average Joe have seen them. They believe because they are real. Take a good look at the Phoenix lights. Do you honestly believe that they are flares? Give me a break!

We are just a small piece in the universe if it is possible for us to survive, why not something else ?
