It's been like that for 45 years, and as long as both teams play in NYC it will always be like that.
Unfortunately Baseball is exempt from the antitrust laws, of the USA, if they weren't NYC would have 3 teams again. Many teams have wanted to move their teams to NYC, but the Yankees and Mets won't allow. The A's was the Last team that wanted to. But if that ever happened, then you would see real complaining about what team is better, like it was in the days when the Giants & Doders played in NYC.

Both were losers and have work to do to be competitive next year. To say that one of these teams is better than the other is pure conjecture and would have no foundation for truth. The Red Sox are the winners and the Mets, Yankees, and 27 other teams are losers and have to go back to the drawing board.
