I want to apply as a transfer (from a 2 year school to a 4 year school). I will graduate with nearly a 4.0 average, and didnt think I'd have a problem getting into schools, but most around me require 20+ hours of community service per month. I have 4 kids, I do not have 20 hours a month! How picky do you think they will really be on this requirement? I currently do a couple of hours a month.

My applications include references, and a paper that I'm suppose to get signed by someone stating that I volunteer and how often. I'm so tempted to ditch it.

I cannot believe they are asking for you to spend 20+ hours a month doing community service. That is very uncommon and is basically 3 Saturdays a month, leaving you 1 to study. I checked a large public school (Univ of Houston) and a medium sized private Catholic university (St. Mary's) and neither required any community service. St. Mary 's required you list some experience I believe that must be for some type of ongoing financial aid. Anyway, whatever their reason, universities are very strict on all their requirements. You will have to comply, skip the financial aid, or find another university.

I have had some classes require a volunteer commitment but never the university. Are you looking at a criteria for getting accepted to the university? If so they may be looking to see that you have done some community or volunteer work in the past but I've never seen an hourly figure. Between work and school most students cant spare 20 hours of volunteer work a month even if they have no children.
