It has to be Jimi. Clapton can certainly play the blues, but Jimi took it into outerspace. Apparently, when Clapton first saw Hendrix play in London he remarked to someone "You told me he was good, but you didn't tell me he was THAT good" Can't find a link to this quote, but I've heard and read this several times.

Clapton is GOD!! He and Hendrix are totally different, Clapton is focusing more on blues based music.
