So many child stars lives are ruined because they are child stars. I personally think there should be stricter laws to prevent these kinds of things. Take for instance Lindsay Lohan, Michael Jackson, Judy Garland, Macaulay Culkin, Drew Barrymore and so many others. Some of them have even said that by being a child star it has interferred badly with their adult lives.

j_man- has it ever occured to you that so many parents of child stars are blinded by the money? They don't have their childs well being in sight, they only see the money they can get out of their success. Someone else needs to step in when that's the case. Yes, some parents understand this, take for instance the Olsen twin's parents, they realized that by them being involved in their childrens careers it would end badly, and so they stepped aside and let the professionals do the work. However for the majority, most parents don't care about their children in these situations. someone of higher authority NEEDS to step in.

Of course, Michael Jackson's case shouldn't repeat because of people's lying minds and greed for money.

No! The last thing we need is more laws. What we really need is more self-accountability. Stop trying to blame your problems on someone else. Where are the parents? It should be up to the parents to govern their children...not the government. If these child stars grow up to be worthless then it's no ones fault but the parents. Take a look at the parents and you'll more than likely find the root of the problems.

They are protected as far as their work environment goes, but if you've ever read anything on them, the parents are to blame for a lot of the issues.

I don't agree that parents should be managers. I think they need to be parents. They should be looking out for their welfare and being. They start treating their kids like a commodity, but a lot of times you also hear about parents who did try to raise their kids normally, put a lot of time and money to have the kids audition, and when the kid became famous, the kid cut contact off from their parents, facing a huge debt.

There are a mix of stage moms and well meaning parents.

Directors hate having parents around, and I think it's weird to have your kids working with grown adults and a crew that acts like kids themselves. Sometimes the actors have had to be the kids' mentor because they see how screwed up the kids' home life is.

And a lot of directors don't like working with kids, but will accomodate them as best as possible.

Some kids see casualties along the way... people who keep auditioning and getting nowhere, some of them enjoy what they do but when they are 18 decide to quit and go to university.

But I also think that the way things are, if a kid does wind up in a role on TV or in the movies, their quality of life might be better than the lead.

The bad behavior happens because they're usually young, stupid and spoiled and because they can get away with anything. If you make a lot of money, are a high profile entity, everyone watches your every move where every little thing you do gets to be in the headlines, it can get a little claustrophobic and paranoid. Privacy goes out the window.

I think a lot of them also don't feel they can live a "normal" life, but I just think that it lends itself to being around more opportunists than not, and can cause problems within the family (people borrowing a lot of money because you're like their ATM machine).

But a lot of people figure out how to live a normal as possible life, do their own shopping, laundry, and errands around the house, or persue their hobbies and interests. They go to swap meets, antiquing, study history, it's not just about red carpets, signing autographs and parties.

There are thousands of laws on the books now. We don't need any more. We just need the government to enforce the laws as we have them. That would solve most of the problems.
