For all this nation's sins, the alternative is much worse. We do eventually to get things right, it just takes a while because everyones opinion must be heard (ie, slavery, the fact that we're now turning the page on global warming and even oil companies are trying to go greener). The problem is, we need to be in Iraq. People can't simplify it by saying he's fighting his dad's war or it's just for oil. Yes, companies get rich off war, it's a fact of life. The reason we are in Iraq is because Iran is a serious threat and we need as many American controlled zones as possible. We can't come out and say that because people who have never had a hard day in their life will cry and say it's not ethical, but we beat Germany because we had them surrounded. Iran is ruled by a religious zealot who believes the end of the world is coming and would like nothing more than to bring it on. He wants to destroy the west. We don't fully know what he has yet, but we know that he has 3 major facilities

that are producing uranium and plutonium, he has the capabilities to do this. We need to support our country. Should the government be more honest with us? Perhaps, but we don't really have time to debate things. The fact is, these fanatics are gearing up for a major war, and we need to get as much land out there to launch our strikes from as possible. We should use our heads a little more, educate ourselves on what the threats to our children are, and not just say what is popular. Why don't people get this?

Yes, Union, as your simple minded answer stated, they "know" we're at war from the tv, but they do not UNDERSTAND it. Why answer a question that you are not prepared to give an intelleget answer to?

John, thanx for your input, especially as you were in Tehran! As a matter of fact, my grandfather was one of the American nuclear scientists who went to Tehran to build a reactor for the Shah, who was, in fact, our ally. But the rulers of this nation HAVE called for our death. How can that be explained? If someone came to your home and said they wanted to kill you, what would you do?

Coming from a military family, i firmly believe that we were not given ANY of the real reasons for our invasion of Iraq. I think we must put them together for ourselves. To say that we are there for some evl bs reason is too simplified.

Ding-bat alert!
So NOW the reason for the Iraq war is because we want to contain Iran...what is that, reason #4 or 5 now? Why does the justification keep changing?
Please, "mom", get off the computer and go bake some cookies.
EDIT: Actually, my mother is quite intelligent (even though she's a Bush supporter), and we talk politics all the time. I am just saddened that your post pretends to be political, but instead is just a way for you to spew your delusions and then criticize those of us smart enough to know the difference.
If you actually knew anything about this subject, you'd know the president of Iran doesn't run the country...the supreme Ayatollah does, and he has already issued a religious edict which states that nuclear weapons are against Islam. It's like Sen. Tancredo saying we should nuke Mecca (which he really did, chilling, isn't it?). That doesn't mean it has even the remotest possibility of happening, ever. The pres of Iran is a figurehead, not a decision maker.
Please, get informed.
And P.S. Thanks for your concern, but I already am married, have been for several years, and I bet my wife's cookies taste better than yours! :P

Because America is not at war. Congress never passed a Declaration of War, which is why Bush keeps getting his hand slapped when he tries use the president's war powers. Even our missions in Iraq and Afghanistan aren't really wars as they are occupations. The "war" parts ended years ago; now we're just trying to root out the insurgents and terrorists.
Your comparisons between Iran and Germany are also weak. We surrounded Germany because Germany had invaded its neighbors; we invaded those countries because they were controlled by Germans. Iran hasn't invaded anyone. We also don't need to invade its neighbors to launch our weapons from. Iran has hundreds of miles of coastline, and we have the world's most powerful navy.
I believe we need to stay in Iraq and Afghanistan until their governments are strong enough to defend their people, but your advocacy for warmongering is the type of attitude that gets America into its messes. Our children are not immediately threatened. Even if Iran built a nuke, they don't have a delivery system to attack the US with. They would need to get a boat or sub within a couple hundred miles of our coast and through the before-mentioned world's most powerful navy.
If you want more Americans to support the missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, try logic and not scare tactics.

Neither element ought to win a conflict against one yet another. They the two could be triumphant at protecting their substantial-land. There must be battles over Pacific islands like in WW2 against the jap. If the two element resorted to nukes, all of us lose. right here is how I see it, now you may think of i'm alittle paranoid, yet. Noone can dispute that the chinese language kind of Communism splashed with a streak of Capitalism is working o.k. for them. it style of feels the yank device is having worry in basic terms dealing with a inhabitants around 3 hundred million. what proportion billion are there in China? effective, there are various, a lot of people living in poverty in China, yet on a daily basis China's high quality of existence is recuperating. on a daily basis further and extra chinese language stay the 'western' way of existence. sure, there has been alot interior the information at the instant approximately puppy foodstuff and the enamel paste and so on. yet they're executing the gov't head of foodstuff protection for corruption. Now it relatively is one thank you to maintain politicians trouble-free. the difficulty with China is they have a bad human-rights checklist and that they get cheep labour from paying their workers particularly something. this is the place i'm getting to my paranoid thought. i think of the western gov'ts and the elite are very green with envy of what China has finished and that they might prefer to objective to repeat it. to try this they are going to could proceed to enable the generating jobs leave the west to pass to coming up worldwide places untill they attain an equalibrium, the place the blue-collar center class would be completely wiped out. the place the rich get much greater wealthy on the backs of the undesirable, working-class. this is the recent worldwide order that the elite have been engaged on for a decade or so. it extremely is obvious that China is a good sized participant in western economics.......might or no longer this is any such ask your self whether that they had particularly of a skill in Washington?

You seriously need to check your assumptions. There's no credible evidence that Ahmadinejad "believes the end of the world is coming and would like nothing more than to bring it on."
The reason why we have troops in Iraq is not "because Iran is a serious threat and we need as many American controlled zones as possible."
I'm not saying Iran is our friend, but they are certainly not ready to strike the US with nuclear weapons. Maybe in 5-7 years they will have a bomb. There is no urgent need to bomb Iran or do anything drastic.
Diplomacy has not really been tried, and the economic sanctions Rice recently put on Iran have not had a chance to work.

i'm always scared when i see people who think like you and who want to cause a psychosis in people's mind.
war is when another country attacks you, not when a group of individual criminals do, and so far no country has attacked any other one (except maybe the US attacking iraq for no reason)
so try to expand your brain and realize that you are not at war.
even the iran guy nijad say that 9/11 was an atrocity against the american people, get your facts straight.

Iran is not lead by a religious zealot trying to cause the end of the world. That's just plain wrong. Americans understanding of Iran is so far away from the reality that we are endangering the world.
Iran is a stable democracy (the only one in the middle east), with a modern moderate well-educated populace (the opposite of Saudi Arabia), and a vision of the future that does not involve wars.
Iran could be a key ally. Instead, ignorant people want to make it a bogeyman.
BTW, terrorism is caused by occupation. Period. Our presence in Iraq will do nothing to end terrorism, quite the opposite.
WE ARE NOT AT WAR WITH IRAN. Do not try to make it happen, just because you think it's fun to pretend we are in some great struggle like WWII. We aren't.

Hard to feel like we're really at war, when there's no sense of shared sacrifice. In previous wars they raised taxes to pay for it. This is paid for with deficits. During WWII they had recycling drives, "Meatless Mondays", "Wheatless Wednesdays", and ration cards. This time we're told to "go shopping".

Simple.
A great many people see the world the way they want to see it, not the way it is. For some, the idea that there are people who WANT to die to hurt them is too uncomfortable to think of. Thus they do NOT think of it and in thier minds the problem does not exist.
They then get angry at whoever points out the true dangers, because you make them "feel" uncomfortable. They prefer to live in thier fantasy world.
Ask a psychologist. It is a very interesting phenomenon.

Maybe because the President doesn't realize we're at war?
I mean, really, would a war time President REALLY take record amounts of vacation and be partisan about everything? Would a war time President try to politicize the Department of Justice? Would a war time President give out tax cuts?

"The reason we are in Iraq is because Iran is a serious threat"
Once you said that, you have to realize that your whole argument is meaningless. Of the many discredited reasons for starting this war, Iran was never one of them. Of the reasons being given for why we're still there, Iran is not being used either. The two have nothing to do with each other. And I can't figure out what point you're trying to make by comparing this to WWII.
