you write in in figures on the line : five thousand pounds and you also write 5,ooo in the box, you write on the top line who it is to be paid too, and the bottom right you sign your name, o and you date it top right

If you don't know, then you shouldn't have access to this much money.
It would be better to send this much electronically anyway. By internet or telephone banking or by an Outward CHAPS or Foreign Payment.
Although, if you can't write a cheque, there's little chance that you'll be able to fill out a CHAPS or Foreign Payment request form!!

make sure you put the only and equals so that somebody cant dishonestly change it and get you to pay them more!!
