Most people are only described as "middle class" to give one an idea of income. However I wouldn't say "most people" are described as middle class. Most of the worlds population are poor and uneducated living in third world countries. A very small percentage of us live in a class divided world. It all depends on what you earn and your education level and the color of your blood. If you are described in any class distinction then you probably belong to a country that isn't third world. In real class distinction it all comes from your breeding. If the Royal family of Briton for example lost everything they would still be regarded as "high class" regardless of having no money. If a poor man won the lottery and was worth millions, he could still be regarded as being middle or even lower class never leaving what he was born in to. Money doesn't move you up the class ladder.

Middle class isn't just a description of the wealth of people, but it's more a definition of how people feel. A middle class family in the middle of Kansas probably earns a lot less than a middle class family in LA or New York. At the same time, someone considered super rich in Kansas is brobably middle class in New York. So you'll get different answers depending on where you are.
Also, even though wealth is very unevenly distributed, there are still more "middle class" families than poor, but that is changing very quickly. Pretty soon you'll start seeing middle class families aren't the majority...

Well, as long as you aren't struggling to pay bills, can own a car, you probably qualify as Middle class. Although many Mid-class people run up their credit card debt to "buy into" the MC lifestyle, for the most part, only a small percentage is considered lower class lifestyle. The Middle is a VAST area, from probably $20,000 for a single person living in a cheap area, up to several million a year in an expensive area. So it's not just monetary consideration, but location and education as well.

where are you from?
the middle class is no longer called middle. we have become the lower class and the poor or lower class have gone under the radar. Madly millionaires have taken over. anything we have invested in has been invaded by these so called Billionaires, All our savings our 400K garenteed investments have all failed any bank that has taken your money has bought into some billionair scheme to steal our saving and the future of our country and way of life, We buy cars from other countries, there is nothing in the grocery stores or Walmart that does not have made in China or Japan, Mexico, on it
rarely anything of value is produced in North America any more. so when you say were middle class. i would suggest the next time you go for groceries look for American made products ,
but don't bother their arent any. we sold out to the run away companies that were helped by our own greed to destroy North America and sell it to the Chinese. Did you know that America owes more than 3 trillian dollars to China. we are in a class of our own. most so called middle incomers are loosing their homes every day . wake up,
your question was a great one it made us look at our future.

Typically middle class refers to all people not in the bottom 20% in terms of income but also not in the top 20%. It is the nature of wealth that it tends to build more wealth, so there is always - and you see this in all developed countries - a great difference between the richest and the poorest. But cheer up! mobility rates are actually very high (that is, from one group quint into a higher quint) for anybody who avoids early pregnancy, drug addiction, and who works hard.
Look at the Asian immigrants for evidence of this. Their culture emphasizes familial obligation and hard work, so they tend to jump from the bottom quint to the middle class very quickly, one generation..

Middle class is a term created by the corporate owners for their emploeyes to use so that they won't feel like they should be trying to change the status quo of an Oligopoly. In truth, most people in the country are Working Class, but that connotation means we should unionize and demand more of our employers, something our employers don't want us to do.

Even if people are quite wealthy, they will still say that they are upper-middle class. Its to avoid drawing attention to themselves and to convey to others that they live a comfortable but not extravagant lifestyle as you would when you consider the likes of Donald Trump and Paris Hilton, who by the way arent considered mega-ultra rich.

For some reason, people like to describe themselves as middle class - I guess because it's kind of like being "normal", whatever that is. In terms of actual income, the middle class is narrower than people would have you believe.

Because you can buy your way into the middle class easily, most people do it by working themselves to death.
