Is there a method for solving a SYSTEM of two differential equations of second order with two variables, without reduction to a system of 4 differential equations of first order?

I doubt I actually know the answer to your real question, but I also suspect you haven't asked your real question yet.

That's because there's surely no general method. So the missing part is -- what restrictions are you assuming on the equations?
