I think that if you want to adopt three to do it. Its best to do it young so that the introduction is easier. But if you only want two than only adopt two. Because its very hard and time consuming to add another cat to the bunch after they are about seven to eight months old. Also, when you adopt three, you are saving three lives instead of two! Good for you!! thanks for adopting!

2 or 3 is fine really, cats do better when kept together rather than introduced to new cats at a later time, this can also help stop spraying with males if he knows his pals. Do make sure to neuter and spay them if they are of opposite sexes and have not yet been done.

I would adopt a pair, it's usually good if they are of the same sex. I have 2 males they get along pretty well, but do have fights occasionally.

i would say 2 rather than 3, and not just 1. if you have a pair, they will play together. if you have 3 then two may gang up on the odd one causing it stress and pee-ing outside of the litter box because when one (or both) of the others will stalks it as it happens in my wife's case when she brought home 3 kittens (all from different litters from a shelter).

Well, cats get along amazingly well. But think of the vet bills.
Do you want to pay for two or three for shots and vet visits each year? Not an inexpensive situation.
Plus Vacations. Who will care for your pets when you want to get away. Someone might care for one or two but three??

Either way is fine I think. I would, personally, start with one cat & then introduce more later. That way you will be able to give more attention to your new buddy, and reduce the stress that is brought on by relocation.
