Um, this doesn't sound like a question but I'll take a shot anyway.

Yeah its not against the law. I think this is where the police decide that its the parents job to punish the child, since they are only causing the family harm and not the community.

Harm against the community would mean time in a juvinille hall... such as joy riding or stealing. Or worse.

But this is not to say they should be doing something to help you. Isn't there like a 24 hour law or something? I ran away and even though I was 18 and the cops still helped my parents find me.

Good luck. I know you must be worried sick.

Ohmygawd - a law that hasn't been written yet - - -

when i ran away from home and ended up in a holding cell - when they called my old man to come pick me up, he said 'she found her way there - she can find her way back' and hung up.

In my opinion, he shudda been thrown in jail - or I shudda been let go and not forced back.

having shared that, when my son came up missing, the trooper said the same thing as you were told. actually the guy told me he probably ran away with the circus (that was in town). Not sure if that was supposed to comfort me - but it sure didn't. Long story short - he came home less than an hour later from a friend's home.

I think they just need to lessen the time required before acting on a possible abduction.

if a child is a chronic run away they may be put under the supervision of the state because they are a danger to them selves. They could be placed in foster or residential care. It's not against the law so they are not punished but they do need to be protected since they are making poor judgements and can end up being harmed.

Did you know that at age 12 they can leave and you can not force them to go back home? You are still financially responsible for them though until age 18. There certainly is something wrong with the 'system', I agree.

Just another example of a parent wanting someone else to enforce the rules to their children instead of doing it themselves.
