They are both great schools, but also very different. Vanderbilt is traditional and very Southern. Wash U is less conservative. Regarding prestige, Wash U has a better reputation, and it continues to get better and better. My friend goes there and absolutely loved it. My other friend went to Vanderbilt and transferred.

Both are great schools, however I believe Vanderbilt has more pull as far as careers and clout, also Vanderbilt has more majors. Both cities are really good, and both have good job prospects. Both are highly respectable and well known. Good luck with applications.

Vanderbilt is much better school, very high standard and it is getting higher in the top 20 best school list, my brother went there and he got accepted in Standford after that,
the city is nice and the university is really nice

They're both mighty fine institutions, but Vanderbilt is the better $value$. It also offers more need-based aid.
