Wow... you actually buy into the Hillary BS?
And this is your argument? That we send aid to other countries? Are you even aware of what the healthcare plans of the Left involve?
Or did you hear someone say this and are now repeating it without having read through the "Universal Health Care" proposal.
It IS Socialism.
You would depend on the Federal Government for your healthcare. Of course, you'd still pay for it because your taxes would go WAY up. The tax cuts Bush put in (and stuff the "for the rich" description because I am not rich, I'm a single dad... and I saw a benefit from it... so that's just leftist propaganda) will be repealed and they'll raise your taxes ad nauseum to support this totally unwieldy social program that only really benefits the lazy. Now, does giving the Federal Government this power over your life sit well with you? It doesn't sit well with me. I've been to the DMV...I've been to the Post Office... I see how their workers handle things... I don't want my healthcare managed in that manner. How about being truthful here...

a very small minority of people actually want this...
and virtually no one really 'needs' it.

let's look at some facts:
The "Poor" (those living beneath the poverty level) in America are not like the poor in other nations. They're not picking flies off their kids who are dying from starvation. 80% of those who live beneath the poverty level in America have two TV sets in their house. Most also have a DVD player and a cell phone. Wow... I didn't get a cellphone until last year! They're doing better than I am, apparently.
So what you're telling me is, we should all pay more in taxes so they can have free healthcare and can afford their Nextel and their Cox Cable?
PLEASE!
Many employers offer health benefits... why not work for one of them if you want healthcare? Oh, wait... there are reasons some of these folks can't do that. One of them is they might be too lazy to hold a job and have grown up on welfare so they figure they'll just sit home and collect. Another is that they are illegally here and can't work a good job or they'll be discovered and deported. Can't get caught until they can have an anchor baby here.

Truth is, whether you like it or not, the system is a very bad idea with an enormous potential for abuse and fraud...
and it's Socialism in practice, whether you like the term or not.

Going way back to the McCarthy area, there has been intense propaganda in this country, in our schools even, against anything perceived as socialism. It has affected our culture and mindset. Socialist policies (not crazy socialist dictators - despite what you have been told, there is a difference) help the working majority and inconvenience the wealthy minority (I won't say hurt the rich, cuz losing a few hundred thousand is not true suffering). Common sense has been turned on it's head in this country due to the political influence of the wealthy and their corporations. These people don't spend millions on marketing and lobbyists for nothing. Wake up, people.

They're all bad ideas.
Social health care is a bad idea.
Welfare is a bad idea.
Foreign aid is a bad idea.
Socialism is a bad idea, the worst of all.

Those who produce real wealth are entitled to do with their wealth whatever they want.
If they want to help people in need they can do so, they do so, they did so and they will do in the future. The socialist government doesn't care about the quality of the help or who's receiving it. They keep a nice slice of the pie for themselves and that's what counts.
Private distribution of wealth is good and is effective. Social distribution of wealth is bad, damaging and ineffective.
Private distribution of wealth is based on voluntarism. Social distribution of wealth takes money at gun point from the wealth producers (if you don't believe me, try not paying your taxes).
With private distribution of wealth you're free to decide. With social distribution of wealth you don't even have access to the decisions (unless you truly believe that democracy works).

If MY UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT wants to offer universal healthcare, then fine. But don't raise MY taxes to pay for it. Not when, as you sighted, we litterally give away billions of dollars a year to countries like Pakistan, Israel, and countless others. So sure......offer universal healthcare coverage. But no reason to raise my taxes to do it.

You confuse healthcare with healthcare insurance, which is the focus of attention currently. The reason that so many people oppose universal healthcare is that they do not think it fair for the general population to have to pay for insurance for those who choose not to purchase it, for whatever reason. Mandatory health coverage for all is indeed a socialist phenomenon. Whatever else the government does with our money it has nothing to do with the issue of health care insurance. That's like arguing that people spend billions every year on hiphop CDs but nothing on health insurance. It is not the government's job to support everybody. Healthcare insurance is not a right it is a commodoty.

Considering that 85 percent of Americans want the bipartisan healthcare proposal vetoed by the president, I don't think that Americans are buying the Republican propaganda anymore.

Not all Americans buy into that BS. The Republicans certainly seem to and they are being very vocal about it. We need to do something or we will be eaten alive by our Healthcare costs.

Because it is. Do you want the government to decide if you need surgery or a medication or a procedure? I don't.
