It is very unlikely that your new goldfish is pregnant. Most small goldfish purchased from pet stores are too young to carry eggs. I strongly suspect that you purchased an unhealthy goldfish. Most likely, the fish is constipated from being overfed. Goldfish should be fed no more than twice per day and only what they will eat in about 2 minutes. Since the goldfish is in a bowl, you should feed the goldfish only once other day. Feeding the fish more than this will lead to extremely toxic water resulting increased waste production by the fish and from any leftover food not removed from the tank. Overfeeding your fish will cause it appear bloated. Starve the fish for at least 3 days, then feed it a couple of frozen peas that have been thawed and mashed. Basically, this will work as a fish laxative.

Your biggest problem is that you have the goldfish in a bowl. Bowls are not a good home for goldfish. Even a very small goldfish will create too much waste to live in a bowl. Your goldfish needs to be in a filtered 10 gallon tank. Eventually, you’ll need to put that single goldfish in a filtered 20 gallon tank.

If you must keep the goldfish in a bowl, you must change 50% of the water every single day. You’ll need to replace the water with conditioned tap water. Never use water directly from the tap as the chlorine and chloramines will kill the fish. You can also use distilled bottled water.

Bottom line, your goldfish is suffering from overfeeding (90% sure) and is also reacting to very poor water conditions.

The only way to improve the fish’s health long term is to get it into a filtered tank.

First of all that gold fish should NOT be in a bowl. It should be in like a 20 gallon with a filter and all that for the time being(it will get large and you will need like a 30- 55 for it when it's grown). If it is pregnant then let it be and if it gives birth cool and if you dont want the babys give them to a pet store. Usualy a smaller petstore will take them.

EDIT: FYI , some fish do give live birth. this fish are called livebearers, so all you people saying all fish lay eggs, please know what you're talking about before you say it. =)

To all those who say "Fish lay eggs" there are in fact MANY fish that give live birth. There is a whole group of them called livebearers (guppies, mollies, platies, swordtails, minnows) only goldfish aren't one of them. Goldfish lay eggs which need to be fertilized by a male.

First of all, if it's small, it's too small to lay eggs. Goldfish take a few years to actually become sexually mature. They're a very long lived fish and get quite large. According to what type it could be anywhere from 1 to 2 feet as an adult. Fancy goldfish, like orandas, ryukins, fan tails, moors usually get around 10 inches to a foot long. Common goldfish like commets and shubunkins get to be around 2 feet long, and koi get far larger.

Second of all, a bowl is definately NOT an adequate home for a goldfish. They make a lot of waste, and they grow far too large for a bowl. Even fancy goldfish get rather large, some over a foot long. You're going to need at least a 55 gallon tank. Leaving your goldfish in a bowl will only doom it to a short life. Yes, a fish will not outgrow it's home, but it will also die early because it's growth is restricted. I have 11 goldfish under 6 months old, average length around 3 inches in a 75g tank. This spring they will go into a 300gallon pond.

I hate it that goldfish are sold in pet stores to be put in bowls by people that don't know any better. If you intend to keep your goldfish expect to be shelling out a LOT of money to keep it. If you don't want to give an adequate home I suggest returning the goldfish to the pet store and getting a betta with at least a 1 gallon bowl.

i might flow her right into a seperate tank which you may make it right into a "breeding tank" and leave her there for some days till she lays her eggs, verify you have a male goldfish interior the comparable tank as her otherwise she won't lay her eggs through fact goldfish might carry their eggs interior them for weeks and weeks till there's a male around to fertilise them then the female might then launch the eggs to be fertilised. Please insure which you have some aquatic plant life interior the breeding tank so while the female releases the eggs they could connect themselves onto the aquatic plant life extremely of them being scattered everywhere. and additionally make effective the tank is super sufficient for the fish to mate through fact if the tank is in basic terms too small they would not mate through fact there is not any longer sufficient room for the male to chase the female around. as quickly as she has laid the eggs (you will possibly understand that via seeing little sparkling spheres, eliminate any milky-white eggs through fact the milky-white or organic white ones are lifeless and regularly after at some point the might pass bushy and the bushy stuff is fungus and to dodge injury against the different healthy eggs with extremely fry in them, you eliminate the lifeless ones), take the female and the male goldfish out otherwise they might consume the eggs. in case you have the different questions you're very welcome to inquire from me, in basic terms look for the "email **Gabby**" button on my profile. thank you and good success with your fish!

Well, if its pregnant it will be larger than normal in the bottom half of the fish. Dont squeeze the fish!!!!!!!!!!!! Otherwise the eggs will come out and they wont turn into fish. It doesnt matter if shes alone.... she will have the babies when she is ready. Just make sure that you feed her enough and keep the tank clean.

go to a veterinarian they will be able to tell you if your fish is pregnant but i doubt it because it's so small but still you should check it out. I would get another tank though if it is because they probably give birth in bulk.

I can't imagine the trauma your fish will endure if you force it to raise its babies alone.

Might I recommend a fishybortion?

PS. Fish lay eggs. No preggie.
