Every interview with a rapper I see or hear they are constantly saying "you know what Im saying" I just want to say YES!! Im not an idiot, I know what your saying. What is up with that saying?

They don't know how to speak properly. They ramble on with their ebonics. These people are supposed to be role models and they are teaching our kids laziness. It drives me nuts.

Rappers got into this type of street talk early on. It certainly registers doubt, doesn't it? I think other folks just pick up on this as a way to immitate and make fun of street talk. Whenever I use it, it gets a laugh every time.

Its just a filler. Like when other people say something and then say ya know. Its a way of making the transition in conversation go more smoothly.

they want to constantly affirm their point by using the condescending 'you know what i'm saying'. if you don't know what they're saying or you disagree you are instantly made out to be unknowledeable and therefor subordinate to the rapper in question :P

It's just a phrase that has entered the mainstream. Kind of like how you said "what is up with ___?"

it is slang... why do people say jesus christ... for that matter why does anybody say anything? why are we using these words here to communicate... why does a italian person say Ciao instead of Bye?

dont be rude...that is just how they are...that comes natural to them and its not just rappers...its black people, and thats just like saying "why do white people always say hi?" stop being rude.
