Both are great songs, but I'd say Sweet Home Chicago has more soul.
Sweet home Chicago is more an ode to the city & music of Chicago, than Skynrd's Sweet Home Alabama, which was written as a response to Neil Young's "Southern Man"
Note: I find it funny that Kentucky Fried Chicken uses "Sweet Home Alabama" as their theme song. Last time I checked, Kentucky wasn't in Alabama!

One is a state. The other is a city in Illinois. I like the geography in the state of Alabama better than Illinios as it is greener and doesn't get as cold. But Chicago is a world class city (I lived there for 15 years) and there is so much more to do there, I think it beats any single city that Alabama has to offer.

Do you really want Ronnie Van Zant to come back from the grave and pay you a visit ? Sweet Home Alabama all the way !!!!!
Long live Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Why does Kentucky Fried Chicken use this song in the background if the chicken is from Kentucky (supposedly ??) ???? Food for thought ..... (;
