If I understand their issue, they want to get more of the profits from DVD and internet sales. They write the stuff, so I don't see anything wrong with that.

I guess that they are due their share of the pot too instead of lining the pockets of the big wigs at the TV studios. I wonder if they're looking for folks to help write during the strike - I'm available and probably a heck of a lot cheaper too!

I agree..with the treachery that the studios perform on actors and writers denying them real royalties, they have the right to demand a fair share...studios are notorious for inflating all bills, etc, charging lavish entertainment to this or that budget, robbing the royalties from the artists...so let's see just how far the studios go without writers...seen it happen before, the studios caved. They had little choice..it is not as if the excutives can take over the job, that is for sure, Hell, even the real writers don't do that good a job from what I have seen or heard. IN all, it is not going to affect me in either way..I watch so little TV lately that it really doesn't matter. And there just isn't that much script to Dancing with the Stars...but I will miss Pushing Daisies..the funniest of all the shows on TV (WED nights) PHil

I agree they should get their full share. If it were not for them there would be nothing on TV.
Goldwing- What up you've been "Pushing Daisy's" (not literally) for a while now, what did you do buy stock in the program Personally I think you should take a look at the new
"Big Bang Theory" I watched it once to see if it was any good, figured I wouldn't like it anyway, and now I love it. I'ts about 4 Nerds and a girl next door. Pretty smart writing, if you listen close. I'ts on monday nights, time me be different as your in So. Calif, I'm in No. Calif. maybe not. Check your listings.
You Go Gladys- I"d vote for you for a writer anytime.

As I writer (freelance journalist) I definitely support them. Without the writers of scripts etc. there would be no shows or movies or soap operas.

True many writers in the writers guild make lots of money anyway, but gyping them out of the new technology which runs their work is unfair. They got screwed when dvds first came out after the contract in 88 it's about time the producers even the score, it's not like they and the movie studios don't make enough money, hundreds of millions to billions. It's only just and dignified.

The son of a bowling buddy is a TV/movie writer, and I know that the man is a millionaire. He has earned what he has, and I wouldn't begrudge him a cent. He does get residuals from his biggest show, which is now in syndication.

He invests in our local cultural scene, and, although he probably will never live in Virginia again, he owns property here.

He has attempted to ease the burden of his mother, who is a retired schoolteacher, but she's an independent soul and accepts little help, but she was thrilled beyond words when he presented her one Christmas with a Beemer sports car.

I don't care if they go on strike or not. I am perfectly capable of watching movies or reading books instead.

My only fear is that it will spawn more of those ghastly reality shows that bear no resemblance to reality as the vast majority of us know it.

Fortunately the NCAA basketball season is starting, so I could care less. There doesn't seem to be much on anyways that I can watch with my 9 year old in the room, nor that I care to watch.

I dont really know much about it but I suppose that people only strike as a last resort so they must feel they have a point to make!!

They probably feel disproportionately paid..when compared to the artist executing the lines they write.

TV STAR probably makes $100 Million per year..

they make $100K

Yeah....probably not fair.

They need to make more..maybe not as much as the TV Stars (who really shouldn't make that much anyway)...but they, the writers should make more money.
