I cannot believe that Americans don't understand the wearing of a poppy to honour the war dead.I have just answered a question on wearing poppys and the Americans are asking what poppy. So I was just wondering what they do to honour and respect all their fellow American service men that died to protect not only theirs but other countries?

The money we contribute by buying the poppys goes to our war veterans although personally I think our goverment should contribute more finacially.I buy them to remember what a great job our service men did for us as a country. On a wide scale does the money spent on yellow ribbons in your country make a great deal of difference to your war veterans or does your goverment do a good job of providing for them?

i'm american & i know about the poppies. i give to those guys whenever I see them out collecting, but i don't take the poppy. my charity is 'Paralyzed Veterans of America.' The money goes toward rehabilitation, equipment etc.. for paralyzed vets. i also make a point to personally thank them for their service to our country.

They wear the same thing, a red poppy that you can buy from the VFW, Veterans of Foreign War. You used to see them a lot, but I haven't seen them in a while. The last time I saw anyone buy one, it was my husband and we were on an Army base at Fort Hood, Texas. I remember seeing them as a child, though.

My family doesn't wear anything, but a lot of people around my area put the magnetic ribbons on their cars in support or against the war.
For veterans day, the city will put ribbons around the trees and we have a moment of silence in honor of the dead. That's about it.

Nothing good comes from war.
Maybe they prefer to forget that millions of lives are lost ... & for what?
It's not a lack of respect to not buy a poppy/ribbon or whatever
Are you aware that some of the money made from poppies goes towards making more weapons?

I think that they use a yellow ribbon these days. Maybe that is only for serving soldiers now I am not sure. I would be surprised if they didn't have something like our Remembrance Sunday services in their churches.

The liberal media does not see her comments as newsworthy. They hate Bush and the militia and any fulfillment in Iraq could be attributed to 3 diverse reason. Pelosi seems to have forgotten how the Iranians made Jimmy Carter look so ineffectual and susceptible.

A black armband around the sleeve of my uniform. Those are proper per regulations, while almost anything else is not.

Most Americans don't wear anything to honor our war dead. We honor them with the song "Taps".
