I am a teacher, & I exchange gifts with the other 3 teachers on my team, and I get little gifts for the ladies that work in the office.
For the people i work closely with, I usually get them a bottle of wine that I enjoy, homemade baked goods, or a small ornament. I usually spend $15-20 on them.
For the ladies in the office, I get them each a bag of good coffee (costs under $10 unless you go all out and get Kona or Jamacian Blue Mountain which can run $50 for a lb so be careful when picking a variety).
In the past I have received wine, coffee, chocolates, homemade cookies, ornaments (hit the outlets), earrings, and cookbooks from the people I work with. Its more about the thought, and less about how much you spend, so since this is your first year there, be conservative and see what everyone else tends to do. You don't have to get everyone the same thing, but it will keep people from having their feelings hurt later on.

I did, a little designer ornament, cost $3.99 each from Tuesday Morning, and I bought paper and a bow to wrap them with. I checked, they are all Christian, or have no religion, and all celebrate Christmas. The ornaments are all different, they can trade around if they do not like what they got.
You could go cheaper, the discount stores have had some cute stuff, Garden Ridge had their ornaments hlaf price, I saw some cute snowflakes, $1.50 at half price, they were pretty, and would not be offensive to most people.
Little boxes of candy, homemade tins of fudge or candy or cookies would work, too.

Dont get carried away.Make sure that its something that each one would like. I love my Starbucks coffee so a gift card to there is always used. Another thing is cards for music or videos. Its more fun if you all draw names and set an amount rather than have to buy a bunch of little presents.

I don't get my coworkers a present for Christmas. I will normally hand out personalized greeting cards with a candy cane taped to them. But, personally, I would rather save my money for something I know a family member or close friend would really enjoy. But that's my personal opinion.

Gift cards give away how much you spent on each person and can be expensive. I would go with some nice earrings/bracelets/necklaces for the girls and maybe a nice tie/gift card for the guy.

My coworkers and I draw names and put a $25 limit on the gift. That way we each get one nice gift and nobody's breaking the bank. Then we all bring a dish and have a nice lunch together.

Get your well peers the items that you simply plan to as for the opposite staff I could do a field of cookies or sweets. You might additionally carry in cookies or snacks for the entire extended family after which at lunch furnish your two peers their offers on the automobile in order that nobody is indignant.

what about a coffee mug with some small coffee packets, hot cocoa or tea? you can give these to everyone for pretty cheap. or make some home made goodies to wrap up in little baggies like cookies, fudge, caramel corn, choc covered pretzels, candies.
