Over the years, like so many others. I always wondered why violence and drugs in the US has grown more and more. I'm talking as a whole not singling anyone out.
I would like to hear your reasons why this is snowballing out of control...and maybe a solution in a nutshell (if that could be done) that could start reversing this problem.

well let me start about the drugs. too many people r bringing them into this country and too many important people, like government people, judges and lawyers are doing them and how can we stop the drug feasko if the important people are doing them? my husband died 2 years ago because of a drug overdose, i don't want pitty, the reason i bring this up is because the people that gave it to him are still free and never had anything done to them. i am not blaming it all on them because he did have a choice, he could have said no, but in all i feel that they should have gotten something for it. they are snitches and thats why they got out of it. the cops even found herion on spoons, needles and drug paraphinala, but they never got 1 charge. some police man are even doing it, so we can not correct the problem until everyone gets their heads on straight and realizes that there is no good to ever come from this and then maybe just maybe we will start reversing society. but i highly dought i'll see it while i'm alive. the violence, people anymore think it is so much easier to solve things with violence than it is to sit down and actually talk about it. that way they don't have to confront the person face to face, so lets just shot him/her that'll solve everything. i don't understand it. but this world and society does need to change. i would give my explaination on how to change it, but i know a lot of people won't be very happy with me. i know 9 out of 10 of you are thinking them same thing i am so you all ready know. hope this helps you.

There is no "solution in a nutshell", society is pretty complex.

If you read "Freakonomics", Steven D. Levitt tries to reason that crime is declining due to legalizing abortions. It's pretty interesting, yet, who knows if that is true. This is discussed in chapter 4: Where have all the criminals gone? If that could indirectly effect crime rate, I'm sure many elements can play into the picture. But if you look at charts, there is indications that crime rate is decreasing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_rate

Crime is decreasing. I have no clue where your statistic is coming from. Unless you are not from America.

Lets look at CA crime rate: http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/cacrime.htm
From 1979-1982, the murder rate was close to 3,000. 1980, it was 3,400! From 1990 - 1995, the murder rate was over 3,500 with a max of 4.1k in 1993! Since 1998, the rate has ranged from 2k - 2.5k. Remember too, the population has increased by 5 million since '95.

Robbery was at it's highest in 1992 with 130k. Today the robbery rate is half that (63k). Assult peaked at 1992 with almost 200k. This is down to 130k. Burglery peaked in 1992 with 430k and dropped 50% in 2003.

New Yorks statistics in 2006 are as low as when it was 1965 with a steep downward trend beginning around 1992.

I think reduction in crime is because of a rising economy. Also, NY crime decrease quite a bit contributing to the overall status of cimes in the US.

Now lets talk about drugs: http://www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/publications/factsht/druguse/

Drug use has been increasing. Look at table 3. There has been a decrease in drug use around 1992 but increases after that. Interesting that crime would be at it's high. Part of it could be that the hippy generation is grown up. People might get the impression, "My parents did it when I was there age, why can't I?" Also the increase of wealth may lead to "entertainment" spending. I don't have the statistics at hand, but I understand that the US is doing really well economically. So what's decreasing the crime rate (or atleast what I believe), could be increasing the drug use. When there is hope and a need to strive, people tend to keep their nose clean. When everyone is comfortable and money isn't tight, spending cash on drugs is more of an option than if money isn't there.
