It means that the player is one of the very best at his/her position. There are many organizations that pick all-American teams: Associated Press, ESPN tv, Sports Illustrated magazine just to name a few. It is a great honor to be named to an All-American team.

It is an American trying to prove that they are actually one nation. As yet they are not. there are Spanish Americans, Greek Americans, Lebanese Americans etc. In the fullness of time that will all become just Americans as we were once just English until out traitorous incompetant government started to let anyone in without check. And then allowed some of them who showed contempt for our laws to say on human rights grounds

"All-American" means completely oblivious to anything and everything outside America. It is the same as the word "American".

this has to do with high school sports player being ranked a certain number so colleges can recruit.
