First you would have to get some statistics and then state that in 2007 % cohabitate compared to % in 1990. This will most likely be an upward trend. Show differences in other countries if applicable. Then you will state some hypotheses as to why this has occured and then discuss if you think this is a positive or negative thing and why.

It depends on your topic. Are you writing that cohabitation is a good alternative to marriage at a time when 50% end in divorce, or that it is not a good alternative as more people in these relationships split up than married couples? Or maybe that there are certain benefits (psychological) to being married and whether or not they also apply to people who are cohabiting??
