I have to oscillate between the two but being an idealist makes me thermodynamically more stable.

Well, a pragmatic person is concerned with the effects, the longer term, and takes into consideration a sense of realism. So therefore in my opinion, when he does reach sucess, it is true and satisfying success. But, may be successful less times.
An idealist will tend to be more consumed with expectation and fantasy. Not entirely, but enough to cloud the issue. However, an idealist will traditionally have more enthusiasm which means that success will probably come his way more, but not quite as satisfactorily at the pragmatics.
I would say that it is equal. It depends on the satisfaction of the success. Not necessarily the ease or speed to which it was acquired.
I am a pragmatic, and my success is probably farely rare, but extremely satisfying because my success is based on truth and honesty with all reality considedred beforehand.
It also depends how you would define success too. For some it is monetary wealth, for others it is keeping a family unit together and happy and making sure the children are strong and healthy. For some it is getting to the point where they know how relationships work, and so therefore end up actually having a very happy one.
An idealist may not do well in a romantic relationship, but may do well with a new concept which will earn them their millions.
A pragmatic may not do so well in a business which changes fast, but may do well as a drug counsellor.
It is very hard to answer your question with an exact answer. Many things need to be taken into consideration. Success is subjectively objective and has several forms.
What is success to one is probably not considered to be success by another. As there are many forms of success, I think it is impossible to answer your question with an exact answer.
Awesome question, very clever. I love the challenging ones. Thank you.

Success in money, social standing and careers is most easily achieved by a pragmatist. However, one also needs ideals just to envision possible successes at times. How often do people tell you "oh, that can't be done" or "you can never do that because of x,y,z" and then you find a way . You dream that it is possible, because it should be so, or it works better that way - and then you find a practical way to achieve it. Many small business owners say that if they listened to all the "practical" people they would never have tried. "Pragmatists" sometimes delight in giving people negative comments. It was crazy idealists who foresaw a world without leaded gasoline and made it a reality. Was Tommy Douglas a pragmatist or an idealist? Ah my favorite -answer a question with a question.

success is relative, it means different things to different people.
success is easily achieved by a pragmatic as compared with that of an idealist because pragmatics are realistic and practical and idealists aim for perfection.
I have not set any goal for myself but I do the best I can in life. If success means being able to send my kids to good schools, afford them the opportunity to travel, possess some material wealth, dine in fine restaurants, enjoy the good things in life and many other things, then in a way I am successful.

For the most part the pragmatist's definition of success will be easier for them to meet than the equivalent for the idealist.

An idealist aims high and fails.
A pragmatic aims low and achieves.
I'd say true success lies somewhere in between. As for myself...I'm a slacker :)

I take my time when I need to make a decision because I am concern on how things are going to turn out . So I guess that I am pragmatic!

I would have to say idealist.
I am an idealist. I aim very high but I don't achieve everything I aim for. Even though I don't achieve everything I aim for, the things that I do achieve distinguish me from most of my peers.

I am a practical idealist. I dream high, but factor in variables that add drag, like human nature.
