I feel like I can't get a handle on life b/c of the values and behaviors I learned... as an adult now its hard to grasp certain concepts and I find myself constantly leaning back on what my family taught me to be acceptable. How can I condition myself to be more empathetic, patient, and well?

some real good meditation,,,,really i m aint joking,, people all over the world tend to underestimate the values of meditation, but its real good process to re-condition your mind set,,,
Sit upright, take some deep breathes, go on relaxing yourself slowly,,, from your toes to your head,, then just think nothing,,, go on ignoring whatever weird thoughts u have, just keep on hoping onto one to another not giving any attention to any thought, well then after sometime u realise u have lesser no of thoughts crossing your mind,,do practise as and when u wish for.... this is the best way to re-condition your mindset, becoz you cant put anything new in your mind-box unless the ones which are already present are out... its a real good experience,,,
good luck

Discover the philosophy section of the library. There you will find every different view point on every topic you could imagine. They provide the framework for schools of thought, but ultimately it is up to you to decide how you want to live your life. And, if you are faced with struggles between what you were taught and what you are now learning, that is inevitable, and shows you are training your mind to think in new ways.

I guess if you are really serious about re-conditioning your mind set, you need to just really evaluate what you where taught and compare to what you feel you need today, I suppose yoga can help you evaluate in some sense, but it's not just when you do yoga, but maybe take a long walk every evening or whenever, clear your head and really think about what you feel you need, it also helps burn that energy that maybe makes you feel impatient, it's also physically good for you.

astounding posting, Preacher! I word the comparable component in human beings. I even have considered people who prepare poor sins cry why is God doing this to me! whilst something undesirable befalls them. Uh....... could or not it somewhat is because you are attempting this undesirable component and don't care approximately Him? That concept in no way happens to them. i can work out in my very very own life that God has had undesirable issues take place to me at situations as a right away results of my sin or of a foul selection I even have made. i think all of it boils right down to the certainty that Christians are given eyes to work out God working of their lives and non-christians have not.

Start questioning your beliefs. Does your belief "work"? Is there a solid reason for your belief? Is there something you want to change about your belief? Second step is to investigate all options. Look to other's and question their beliefs. Will this other belief "work" for you? and so on.....

Then apply what you have learned and practice with it.
