side of the hole/worn area?I've never done that before.Any help from ladies or any person who can sew will be appreciated.

Since you don't sew, maybe you would have better luck with an iron on patch, available in any store that sells fabric. You can buy them in all different sizes. Just make sure it's bigger than the hole, and follow the instructions.

It's always best to make the patch larger than the worn area / hole, so you sew on a part of the garment which is still in good condition.

For knees, I suggest patching from side seam to side seam. For the bottom (your bottom, not the bottom of the trouser legs) it's more difficult due to the shape and cut of trousers. Do not attempt to put a single patch across a seam, rather put two patches, one on each side. This is because the seam helps shape the trousers and the whole area is not flat, like your patch.

Pin on the patch before sewing. If it's on the bottom, I recommend pinning, then tacking the patch, to be sure it's lying flat with the garment. If the patch is not flat there will be a strain on the entire garment.
