in the morning when i wake up or before i go to bed i stretch my arms and legs. i was just wondering if it could hurt my baby. i heard something about the umbilical cord getting wrapped around a body part due to stretching. its probably a weird question but i am a first timer so i am paranoid. someone please help me.

Old wives tale. My grandma shared it with me.

So I asked her how she had 6 live children AND clean hair???

There is a chance of the umbilical cord wrapping around the neck, however, not from a stretch or two. When I was pregnant with my second child I decorated my house and hung curtains,my child was born with the cord wrapped around her.Whether this happened as a direct result of me doing what I did,I wouldn't like to say but I strongly recommend you not to overdo anything.

If you're naturally very thin .. then you give him/her less room.. but no, you can't hurt em.. And the umbilical cord can get wrapped around the baby by him just flippin around.. turning.. ask your dr.. but i'm almost positive stretching (slowly) is okay

If bending and stretching is a worry now, Wait until labor starts. You are in for another reality . No . stretching will not harm the baby. It is really good for both of you. Stretching and moderate exercise is really beneficial to both of you also. It helps for prior to delivery and after delivery. Ask your Dr.

My mum told me the same thing when she saw me stretching for something on a high shelf.

I asked my midwife though and she said it was 'an old wive's tale'. She said that the baby does so much moving around in there anyway that, if it was that easy, they'd be strangling themselves constantly!

Ive never heard of that type of stretching to affect your child the type of stretching that would, would be bending too far backwards or lifting heavy objects some women do light exercise while pregnant but don't over do it! best thing to do would be to ask your mother or friends that have had children or best to ask your midwife.

That is a silly old wives tale used to get others to hang the laundry and do the housework.
Stretching is good for you and won't hurt your child.

No. It is not going to hurt you or your unborn child. If something were to hurt you as that, it would happen in your last trimester and only if you were having other complications regarding the babys position. Congratulations and good luck.

Stretching won't harm your baby ...

They say to stretch your arms above your head to help you breath when the baby is sitting high up into your ribcage.
(It works !!)

When you stretch out your legs - be careful not to stretch too much and give yourself cramp.
