You need to learn the shortcut keys. I had a presentation and the mouse crapped out but I knew the keystrokes and it went great.

Sounds like you need the Geek down the hall to q-tip your ball. Batting eyelashes works for me.

You might just need to turn it over and clean its little "feet" . There is a screw under it that comes out and you can get it cleaned out.
