Our jails are packed, in order to free up some space the government is now offering £1500 to criminals who leave the UK.

Sadly this is the current culture in the UK. Reward the criminals.
It already costs far too much to keep criminals in jail. There should be an offset whereby the prisoners work to earn their keep and contribute something back to society. In times past they broke rocks or sewed mailbags and these seem draconian now. But there must be many other things that can be done by prisoners that would raise money for the prisons and go towards keeping a prisoner behind bars rather than syphon millions out of the public coffers.
What's to stop any foreign national from coming back to the UK for another spell and another £1500?
And what about those foreign nationals who will claim asylum here because they are at risk if they are deported?
If they are truly 'persona non grata' they should be deported regardless of the consequences. The UK cannot be responsible for what happens to a person falling foul of the laws of other countries. If a UK citizen is locked up abroad, they serve their time in a local prison, not in a comfy UK cell. If they are to be put to death or are to be whipped or beaten, then that's what happens.
There are genuine asylum seekers but there are also those who break their own laws and see the UK as an easy escape. Until they offend here and risk deportation. Then they claim their lives are at risk. Of course they are, they offended in the country they escaped from and they evaded justice. They have to be punished.
There's less of a deterrent these days for criminals. That's why the jails are so full.

Financially it could make sense - deport them and it could be cheaper by more than that, so makes a bit of sense, however...
in many counties that is a couple of years wage (equivalent to us of say £50,000), so all they have to do is come here, commit a minor crime, and get deported with a pocket full 2 or 3 years wages. Now that sounds like an open invitation for foreign criminals to come here doesnt it

Its about £1500 too much. Boot them out now. Dont even let them pick up their belongings. I cant believe it. It used to be 'Come to Britain, get free house and money'
Now its 'Come to Britain, commit a crime, get free bed and lodgings for x number of years and a 4 figure payout when you are finished'

It`s too much, they shouldn`t get anything, they should be sent back to where they came from before setting foot in prison, without any money at all , they came with nothing why can`t they just leave with nothing

I think that this bounty might actually increase the foreign criminal fraternity in this country. We should simply deport them, sending a clear message, "if you want to live here, behave!"

Cash incentive is a valid benefit for prisoners in order to be deported from UK. It is the equivalent if they are kept in custody by the UK government.

I am somewhat out of date, but I thought that an alien can be deported just by putting him on the shipping line or airline on which he arrived.
