My definition would be like this,

True Fan= Someone who knows when their team is playing, who knows where their team is playing, who knows who their team is playing, and someone who is excited right when he or she gets out of bed because they know what ever happens today that they will be able to watch their favorite team when they get home.

A true fan is also someone who doesn't care if their team is playing the worst team in the league they still watch every pitch.
Its also someone who doesn't turn the channel jsut because its a blowout.

But Most of all I think a True Fan is someone who is with their team threw the thick and thin and someone who gets very emotional when their team wins, or when their team loses.

A fan who sticks with the team through the thick and thin. Not a bandwagoner. Like my best friend, when the Tigers started doing pretty bad towards the end, he's like yeah i don't like them anymore. Go Red Sox. A true fan can tell you the score of any game. A true fan never talks bad about the team, but looks at the positive. I am a true fan of the Detroit Tigers, before 2006. I am a true Detroit Red Wings fan, for 13 years and counting..I'm 17.) I am, however, a bandwagon Lions fan. At least I can admit it.

Your definition almost says it all. I would also add that even though your team has it's lean years, you still are optimistic about their chances. You never give up on them and always stress the positives of your team, rather than the negatives. You also follow the progress of your team's young players in the minor leagues and dream of the day that some of those guys are in your team's uniform and have developed into good quality players. You follow them just as closely during the off-season and monitor their every transaction. You are there through thick and thin and never think of rooting for anyone else. That is a true fan!

I guess it would help if I understood what you are trying to define.

Sounds like, by your response and the response of others, you are trying to define a true fan TO A TEAM.

I don't think that is as important as being a true fan to baseball.

Typically, fans of teams know a lot about the team they follow, but almost nothing about the league they don't play in. Their knowledge is centered around a team and unfortunately, that's only 3.3% of the knowledge one should be claiming when they are a true baseball fan.

Being a fan of a team is easy (IMHO), being a true baseball fan takes time and work.

a true fan is me: a diehard Cleveland Indians fan who screamed myself hoarse at Jacobs Field during Games 1 and 2 against the Yankees, felt deep sorror during Game 5 against Boston at Jacobs Field and watched them lose Game 7 in Boston, worked through the emotions of yet another devastating loss and am already reading about any possible changes in 2008. I know that Mark Shapiro just beat out O'Dowd for Exec of the Year and that Shapiro also won it in 2005. I can name every position player for the Indians, who their radio announcer(s) are....etc. I am a true fan: one who sat in a bar dazed when we lost to the Marlins in Game 7 of the 1997 World Series but was sitting at Jacobs Field on a cold day in April in 1998. Seeing all the Indians fans waving those white towels during the playoff run this year, I had tears in my eyes. The Cleveland Indians, they are my team, they are my Tribe and I am a true fan.

I believe I know the definition of a true fan..my heart is with the Rangers. Since I was..like 5 or 6? So like 10 or so years?

I honestly don't think you have to go to every game.. (I would if I had the money or knew someone who worked there) justwatch. Stay up to date with your team. Stick through the good and the bad. It's like my home team is a really cool part of my family..that I always support and watch. =)

I agree with your definition on a true fan word by word.

A true fan doesn't stop cheering on there team when their down 3 games to 1 in the ALCS.

A true fan continues to cheer on their team when they are in last place in the division.

A true fan watches or tries to watch every game.

A true fan sticks by their team no matter what.

A true fan bleeds, crys, laughs, gets mad, and root on their team throughout the year.
