Hi, I am having a problem with my keyboard, (well I think it is the keyboard), when use the standard keyboard symbols, some of them are mixed up and showing incorrectly. eg. this symbol is in the wrong place@ it is by this " symbol. also my back slash is not even showing up on any of the symbols i typed to find it, it is not in its usaual place next to the backspace symbol. I tried putting in 2 other keyboards and they also are doing exactly the same thing........what is wrong, i have also tried to restore to another date, where I can remember it was working and this has not helped me either, I have also checked the Language settings and they are the same, I would appreciate it if someone could help me please, as i work in MSDOS, with one of my programs and I need to use the back slash.

Sounds like the keyboard layout has been changed from US to British. Go to the Control Panel and the Regional and Language icon.

Go to the language tabs and click on "Details"

Under the installed services you will see a section for the Keyboard. It will list what layout it is using under that. Use the "Add" to select the keyboard layout that you need.

If it is currently on the current layout, switch it to a different layout and then go back to the one you want. The file holding the layout information may have been damaged. But switching from and back, it should replace that file and hopefully resolve your issue.

If not, play with the other available layouts until you find one that works for you.

Wow, I haven't heard of anyone still working on the old black screen DOS. When you work in DOS, you need to load a keyboard driver, with switches that identify your 'Codepage' the program 'Keyboard.exe or .com should be in you DOS directory and comes with a help switch - keyboard.exe /?
or keyboard.exe /H . been a long time, but I think there is also a keyboard.sys which may need yo be loaded in config.sys. If you still have trouble, email me from this message and I will look further.
