Since you don't say "professional" baseball... it depends on how many guys show up.
Our pick-me-up games have played with as many as 20 and as few as 10... that's for both teams.
Believe me with only five players on a side you are tired by the end of the game.
Now... if you are referring by "standard" baseball rules... 9 on each side is all that's required.

A professional game needs two teams with the following players...

1) a pitcher
2) a catcher
3) a player at first base
4) a player at second base
5) a player at third base
6) a player BETWEEN second and third bases (the shortstop)
7) a player in left field
8) a player in center field
9) a player in right field

Both teams also will have a cadre of relief pithchers, known as the "bullpen" who will play the pitcher's position in the event the designated pitcher is getting too many hits.

there are 9 player positions on the field, plus a Designated Hitter in the American League, plus all the extra players, relief pitchers, etc... but the minimum would be 18-20 depending on the league. most teams have 40 players on their active roster...
