Intel Pentium D Dual Core (2x3.0ghz) or E6750 Core 2 Duo Processor (2.66GHz). I am planning to do video rendering and multitrack audio editing at home. Not gaming. I know not all processors are created equal - so is the 2x3.0 neccessarily faster/better than the E6750?. I am looking at 2 systems. Each has similar specs on graphics cards/RAM but different processors.

the E6750 all the way. For what your'e trying to do, you should be looking at different graphics cards and how they perform for your needs, not processors. However, for more information on Intel processors, go here.

The Core 2 can do a lot more per clock than the Pentium 4 (a Pentium D is just two Pentium 4 dies on one chip) so the Core 2 Duo 2.66 is going to be a much faster processor despite the lower clock speed.

If you don't already know, that a "newer" processor is always better. If your wallet can withstand it, I would look into buying the Quad Processors. However to answer your question the Core 2 Duo the better Processor. The Pentium D is older.

Newer is better, in this case, C2D is better than P-D.

Not all processor created as "equal". In your case, Pentium D series is maybe run in the same speed, but it generates more heat than Core 2 Duo.

You may want look at your FSB cache, newer will have more power. In your case, Pentium D only will run in smaller amount of L2 and L3 cache (that's an "internal memory" in the processor), and smaller speed access from and out of it.
