Clomid is a drug that Stimulates the tissues in the body that have estrogen receptors. This in turn "fakes the body" into believing that your estrogen is Low, causes the brain to produce more hormones, and renders more mature eggs in the ovaries. I took 7 cycles of clomid before getting pregnant, and in the last month, we used the clomid in conjunction with insemination.

Here's how I took the drug: on days 3-7 I took Clomid orally. On day 10, 11 or 12, I visited my fertility doc, and he would do an internal ultrasound and check the maturity of the eggs in my ovaries. Then at his direction I would take a shot called Ovidrel which would cause the now mature eggs to release. Then we would have "timed Intercourse".

What happened with us is a common side effect. The clomid actually can cause you mucus to become thicker, so even though you are now ovulating, the swimmers can't get to the spot that the need to be. After the 6th month, he suggested insemination and it worked the first time. I have several friends who took clomid also, some who used just the drug and became pregnant in a few months, a couple who like me, had to do the insemination.

There are other side affects to the clomid, so discuss it with your doc so that you are prepared, but none that were bad enough that I wouldn't do it again!!!

Good Luck!!!!!

I was put on clomid because my doc discovered I wasn't ovulating. You take it for 5 consecutive days at the beginning of your cycle (usually 3-7)
It is supposed to stimulate your ovaries to make them release an egg.
My first cycle I conceived, but miscarried. My third cycle I conceived again, and I am now mum to a 6 month old little girl. I have read that it will be successful in about 40% of cases, so good luck. I call it my magic pill because it worked for me!

Clomid, also known as Clomiphene, helps you to ovulate. It tells your pituitary gland to produce or make more of the hormones that trigger ovulation.

Pregnancy drugs don't always work. You can find out more information at http://www.minti.com/parenting-advice/5750/some-facts-on-clomid/ and http://www.minti.com/search/?query=clomid&item_type=advice&x=0&y=0
