Dual core is an earlier model of the core 2 duo, meaning that it does not perform as well. There are other processors out there that are faster than the core 2 duos as well, such as the quad core and the core 2 extreme, but these are much more expensive. I would suggest, budget wise, that the core 2 duo is your best bet, although if you are looking to make an ultra computer, and money is not a problem, go for the quad core or the core 2 extreme. It is hard to even find dual cores on the market nowadays anyway.

Dual Core just means that a processor has two cores on the one chip while a Core Duo is an Intel mobile Dual Core processor that has both cores on the one die and shared cache between them.
It has been superseded by the Core 2 Duo which is in mobile form about 20% faster per clock with the same power consumption.
A Core Duo (or Core 2 Duo) is Dual Core so it makes no sense to ask which is better.
If you're referring to the Pentium Dual Core that is a low end processor that Intel are selling and in laptops is a Core Duo with half the cache removed (making it inferior to the Core Duo) and on Desktops is a Core 2 Duo with less cache.

Well they're same having "two". Dual core (Which im using right now) has a FSB of 800Mhz while Core Duo has FSB of 1066 meaning core duo has faster bandwidth or faster data transfer. So core 2 duo is best. See Cpu charts for better comparison found at Tom's hardware

there isn't actually a difference between "dual core" and "core duo." These are the same, except that one is intel's own name for their dual core technology. i hope u know what does a dual core means. it simply in in laymans terms means two processor.
all the best.
