Congratulations on the pregnancy first of all, The only things i can suggest is walking lots, maybe a hot curry and even sex can help bring on labor if you are ready to start. Avoid caster oil as it can be dangerous and was used year's back by older women cos of a old wife's tail about grease bringing on labor.
I wish you and your wife all the luck in the world but baby will come when its wants to I'm afraid.

Hi there!
Keep mobile, go for a walk, warm baths, and sorry to say the baby will come when it is ready. The due date is not an exact science.
My first was a week 'overdue'
The second 12 days 'overdue'
and the third was a week early!
So you never can tell.
To put your mind at rest, none of my waters broke in B&Q or Tesco's!
I was at home when two started and in hospital for the 12 days over one, which was an induced birth, not any more painful than the others, just a lot quicker!!
Good luck as it does seem to take for ever, but try to enjoy your last few days of peace!!

If you are hoping for "as natural a birth as possible" then I would disregard just about every suggestion except for perhaps the walking and sex.
Castor Oil will make your labor harder and very messy because of the oily residue it will leave. The hospital personnel will also know that you used it.
I walked a lot during my last pregnancy and did not come early but exactly on my due date. However I did walk a lot throughout my whole pregnancy.
The sex thing probably makes the most sense. It's not the sex itself that can speed up the labor process, it is the sperm. Sperm has some type of "ripening agent" that can help the cervix to dilate but that is only if the cervix is ready for that.
Sorry, my answer is probably not what you want to hear. I'm only a couple of weeks away myself and wish I'd go into labor early as I am extremely uncomfortable too.
Pretty soon it will be over for both of us and the hardships of pregnancy will be but a distant memory.
Good luck!

I love how you said 'the wife', I'm guessing she's just gonna loooove that, lol!!!
Anywho, romance your wife, take her to bed and when all is said and done (get my drift) make her lay with a big pillow under her butt/hips to let the semen soften her cervix. The same hormone, oxcytocin, is used in the semen and the gel that they use to induce labour. Achieving orgasm (her that is!!) is said to stimilate the uterus also.
Also tell her to keep active and let gravity do its thing! Sitting around will not help even though it is tiring. Frequent rests and frequent walks will help move things along. This also applies doubly to labour.
DO NOT TAKE CASTOR OIL!! she will get diarrhea and that sucks!!! Curry doesn't work either, neither does raspberry leaf tea. one other thing said to help is stimulating the nipples for 5 mins on, 5 mins off. Using a nipple cream will make it easier and softer. Also good for getting the nipples ready for breastfeeding.
Best of luck and if all fails, induction isn't as bad as its made out to be. Its just as painful but usually the pain comes quicker, where as in spontaneous labour it is gradual but ends up the same.
Good luck!!

people will tell you all sorts, sex is ment to help ripen the cervix well the sperm is,and orgasm's help you contract.
walking only helps get baby into a better birthing position.
You will hear all sorts but a lot of the time when people think something worked for them its just purely a coincidence that they had the baby after.
Take me for example i ate a curry with my 1st then had a show and had him a day later, but to be honest i think it was just a coincidence as i ate a hot curry the other day and it hadno effect on me what so ever.
My mum went two weeks over with both me and my sister and she said she tried everything and nothing worked, your baby will come when he or she is ready im affraid.

Never consent to a membrane sweep. I was forced to have one done and I wasn't ready to go into labour. My waters broke, but I had no contractions. They put my onto a drip and the baby was in the wrong position, so I still didn't progress. I ended up with an emergency c-section and the baby ended up in NICU due to breathing difficulties and Strep B.
Do not let them do this to you. Wait for the baby to come naturally.

Don't! That's the only really sensible answer. The baby will come when it's ready. Don't forget that due dates aren't an exact science.
If you really do want to move things along you can try going for a walk, spicy food, or VERY GENTLE intercourse.

I had to be induced, this was safest for me, and for my baby. It is easier if you are not stressed, so don't worry, I went 2 weeks over my due date and in the end I just wanted to give birth, my Son was big. You will be fine, do not think about the pain, think about the baby you will be holding after. And try to breastfeed if you feel you can, it sucks the baby fat right away! xx

Take no notice of any of them, unfortunately, the only thing that will bring on labour is Mother Nature herself, the rest is just old wives tales. First babies are generally late, enjoy the peace while it lasts. Oh, and good luck.

Well you are probably sick of hearing this, but the baby will come when it is ready. But you could try sex and plenty of walking. Stay away from thinks like castor oil as it is dangerous and does not work anyway.
Best of luck! Won't be long now.
