It is actually sad that type 2 diabetics are on the increase. This can be controlled so easily by diet, namely less alcohol, less sugar, less fat in the diet, and more excercise. Why spend millions on drugs and monsters when we have the world´s best supply of fresh fruit and vegetables on our doorstep?

I guess the agent in the Gila monster's saliva may also help diabetics eat other yummy food.
Some trivia on the Gila monster: It, together with the other N-American lizard species mentioned in the srticle, are the only 2 venomous lizards in the world. It's saliva can also kill!

Sounds absolutely wonderous to me. Talk to me again after you've lived wtih diabetes for about 25 or 30 years. They are only using its saliva. Its not like they have to cut it open and rip out its heart or something. Its a renewable source. I couldn't load any of the pictures that went with the story, but the story was about donating 3 to a zoo. Pretty nice.
