Sometimes I use a church key (old fashioned beer opener). I put it between the jar and the lid to break the air seal. Then It opens as easy as pie.
If it is a small lid, I use a pair of pliars.

First you'll need to be willing to take a year out of your life.
To truly learn to open a jar, pack of biscuits or door you first have to open your mind.
You'll need to meditate for at least 18 hours per day, and restrict your diet to 4oz of water every other day and a kernal of corn - representing the kernal of 'truth' you are striving for.
After a year of this you'll be able to open all things with the power of your mind only.
...Or you'll be dead - either way you'll be enlightened.
I hope this helps.

Tap the side of the lid firmly against a hard surface edge. Keep trying if it doesn't work first time. The vacuum seal will eventually 'pop'.

try putting a rubber band around the cover of the jar, then open it. the rubber band should give you extra grip.
