I have had an early miscarriage at 5 weeks. I have only bled heavily since Saturday (3days) on the third day it was light and turned brownish in colour. Is this normal? Also I want to know whether I should go back to the doctor to see if everything is fine, do i need to or do you normally just leave it and only go back if there is a serious problem (smelly discharge etc)? I want to start trying for a baby ASAP!! Just worried that I may need to go back to the hospital for a blood test to see if my HcG levels are back to 0....

You will need to go to the hospital for a DNC! A DNC is the process of removing any left over tissue, this left over tissue is actually pieces of baby that are left when the body does not excrete all the matter by itself. The actual process is very stressful, but mostly painless, also can be very emotional. They use a funnel shaped cup with a hose attached and it has suction, it will suck the remaining tissue from the womb, so there is no infection.

I had a miscarriage at 5 weeks in july and didn't need any medical intervention.I bled for around 5 days .IAbout 2 weeks later I went to my doctor just for a check up as we wanted to try again, everything was fine physically although I was still emotionally quite tender as I am sure you are also. You may want to go to your doc for some reassurance although you probably don't have to unless you are having pain, fever or unusual discharge. We tried again after my period returned and I am now 11 wks,I hope you have the same luck and my thoughts are with you, baby dust to you x.

I think because it was so early the chances of needing any extra care (DnC) is unlike but I would probably go and see them just to make sure nothing has been retained that could cause infection etc...
Err-ing on the side of caution could be beneficial in the long term if you want to fall pregnant again. Sometimes you just don't know whats going on in there.
Better to be safe than sorry.......
Good luck and fingers crossed you conceive again soon!

I was 6 weeks when I miscarried. I went to the hospital as my doctor said to. I had already passed the embryo and is was intact and whole. At the hospital they asked me if I wanted a d and c. I said no so there was nothing else they could do for me. So I don't see why you have to go see your doctor is everything is going ok. If any severe pains, blood clots or heavy bleeding then yes you do.

Same condition as yours. Didn't see a doctor. No tests done. The following month I got pregnant with my firstborn. If you feel uncomfortable about this just see a doctor though.

Ok Sara, sorry to hear. You are perfectly fine to stay home, just watch yourself...keep hydrated, is your temp ok?, and yes if your discharge gets brighter or more profuse, or doesn't stop after a week, go see your doctor.
