Being a member doesn't get you levels faster, other than you have more quests. Runescape is a pretty neat place to play. I was an active member a long time ago. You really wouldn't want my screen name.

You level up faster with proper spelling and grammar.
Runescape has a hidden script running in the background. People who talk "funny" like "ne1 gotz da gold? Gimme! PLz! KTHX1" will have their ability to level up decreased logarithmically.
Also not a lot of people will understand you.
The more people will understand you, the more people will help.
So learn to write properly. This will lead to better answers on Yahoo Answers and faster leveling on Runescape.

On some skills like mining , woodcutting & crafting its far easier because you don't have to compete as much. Members worlds have lots more good mining spots & trees for people to spread out on.
