Usually they can bring you more up to date stories more quickly than print media can.
If you want to get your news now, non-print, primarily electronic media, but also web-based, is the way to go.

Online news organizations produce content with more immediacy, more layers of information (read a story, see video, watch a slideshow, read the original documents), more opportunities for the audience to comment, and more ways to search for and find exactly what you want. Online news and information can be organized and sorted much more easily. It can include data sets. The audience can contribute layers of information (user-generated stories, photos, video -- or wiki-style information). Online media can be read on a mobile device and shared easily with other readers across a wide range of platforms.
