Utopia (from Greek: οὐ no, and τόπος, place, i.e. "no place" or "place that does not exist," as well as "perfect place") is a fictional island near the coast of the Atlantic Ocean written about by Sir Thomas More as the fictional character Raphael Hythloday (translated from the Greek as "knowing in trifles") recounts his experiences in his travels to the deliciously fictional island with a perfect social, legal, and political system. The name has come to mean, in popular parlance, an ideal society. As such, it has been used to describe both intentional communities that attempted to create an ideal society, and fictional societies portrayed in literature. The term is sometimes used pejoratively, in reference to an unrealistic ideal that is impossible to realize, and has spawned other concepts, most prominently "dystopia".

I was in Las Vegas last week and had the good fortune to run into Bill Gates. After a couple of G and T's in the Bellagio we discovered that Bill was unfamiliar with the "rice on a chessboard" scam, and to cut a long story short I walked away with a just over four billion dollars in my pocket.
Bill's people looked after things, and I strolled out into the Las Vegas night air. I marveled at the glorious bleakness of the night sky, the stars totally obscured by the glow of the city's neon. I opened my ears to the dull roar of the traffic on the strip and breathed in the heavy odor of its benzene. I felt at one with the world. A young lady brushed alongside me murmuring suggestions to set my pulse racing, and I accompanied her to Nick's Hamburger stand, intoxicated by the thought that I could have every burger on the strip without the slightest dent in my account.
