hi...my wife will be 17w LMP tomorrow with #1 - she's had 2 previous mc this year so is a little nervous to say the least...she thinks she should have felt the baby move by now+she's starting to get worried+annoyed...I'm trying to keep her relaxed+trying to let her know that it's early yet but she's still worrying (understandable I know)...I've told her to make an appointment with her GP who can listen to the hb - which might put her mind at ease...have any of you any other suggestions? I'm a little worried myself but not showing that to her...thanks again.

i have a doppler ordered online - just waiting for it to be delivered! I heard her mention twice about a "ripple" type feeling she had at her side...dont know if that has any relevance or not!

17 weeks is still early to feel movement or maybe she has but hasn't realised it yet. The first movements feel a lot like Gas! Flutters and bubbles popping in your tummy is an accurate description. I didn't realise for two weeks that what I thought was gas was actually the baby when I had my first!

I'm sure she has been hearing the heartbeat at regular doctors appointments and I bet you've probably had an ultrasound or two by now as well.

Take her to dinner, buy her flowers or go to the cinema. Anything to take her mind off the baby until her next appointment.

Another thing, if she is so worried (which she has every right to be) then spend a few dollars on a hand held doppler so she can hear the heartbeat anytime she wants to put her mind at ease. I'd say in this case it could be very helpful. Go and buy one and surprise her with it. She'll love you for being so thoughtful and caring.

Best of luck and congratulations on the baby!!

I know it's scary, especially because of the previous miscarriages but she'll get through this.
My daughter is 18w2d pregnant with my first grandbaby and when she was 12w5d she started bleeding, we were scared to death. We went to the ER and they listened to the heartbeat and done an ultrasound and said everything was fine. She bled off and on for 2 days and we went back to her doctor just to make sure everything was still ok and he really acted like he couldn't care less about her or her baby. So I ordered one of those dopplers online and it helped alot. We listen to the baby's heartbeat every week. It will also help you and your wife. Don't be alarmed if you can't find it. It takes practice, the best place to find it is right in between her belly button and her pelvic bone. Maybe even closer to the pelvic bone but under the belly button.
Also, my daughter just started feeling the baby move last week at 17 weeks. And I felt it Sunday (18 weeks). This too will happen for you both withing a couple weeks. And it is an awesome feeling. Congrats and best wishes.
Hang in there.
