Greed is the desire to have or own more of what one already has enough...... it therefore leads to accumulation rather than mere acquisition.... it arises due to an inherent sense of insecurity due to scarcity of availability in the overall context of total requirement...... it is thus a want to grab what may be otherwise taken away by someone else. One therefore does not greed for what one believes to be generally abundant or unwanted...... being scarce and wanted by others are the two essential requisites for anything to become an object of greed.

we live in very controlling and greedy societies and to a certain extent we are all a bit greedy but we usually balance greed with some moral choices
the problem comes when this gets out of control, when we can't put a limit to greed as in extreme liberism: everything is acceptable just to make more money, have more power and in the end more control on a very large scale
sad really
the important things in life are not that earned with greed but those received for free and by grace (used as a general term here)

I think greed is an unhealthy conscious or unconscious craving for items in excess to the extent that it brings detrimental effects to oneself or others.
Kinda like a person who buys all the eggs in a market. That can't be good. :P

The simple desire to make as much money as you can honestly, and then to KEEP IT. But people who wish to do either are vilified for wanting more than they "need," or for wanting to keep socialists and bleeding hearts from getting their hands on it--not to mention the government.
However, if you have read Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged," you know that John Galt's motive was greed, and he gave up everything in the "outside" world to reach that goal.

Greed is thinking of pleasing yourself before anyone else, it is selfishness, and an unwillingness to let go of anything, even as you reach out to grab more. It is wanting things you don't necessarily need, and taking it, despite someone else needing it.

I guess it would be always wanting more. May have all you really need, but never satisfied with what you have. Also. maybe wanting it to keep others from having it.
